We began the day with gym class, snacks, morning circle time and music class.
Next, JKs met our new animal friend: Gomer Goat. We then learned our new phonics song for letter G.
Then JKs put on their detective hats and found all the Gs on their sheet. For those who finished early, they had a Halloween beginning sound worksheet to work on.
After lunch and recess, JKs had French class and we made pumpkins, take a look:
As you may have notice we do a variety of cutting and paste activities, that's because cutting allows students to build up the tiny muscles in the palm of their hand with the continuous open and close of the hand. These muscles are also used for writing, painting and gripping things like a toothbrush, spoon or fork. Cutting also enhances eye-hand coordination (using vision, processing what is seen and moving the hand simultaneously to accomplish a task). Finally cutting encourages your child to use bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body at the same time while each hand is performing its own task). For example, when cutting a circle, a child must hold the paper with one hand (and continuously turn it) while the other hand is opening and closing the scissors and moving forward to cut.
After second lunch and recess we visited our school library. Ms. Hayward explained to us how we will be using the library and she read us a nice story book as well.
To finish off the day we learned a new pumpkin song and had centers.
Have a fantastic evening everyone!
