Happy Wednesday!

We had a fantastic day!
Today I talked to my students about how happy and proud I feel about not having to use the "thinking chair" in our first month of school! Thumbs up to all my kiddos!
Today we began the day with gym class, snacks and morning circle time.
Next, we finished our board for International Day. Today we learned that Hong Kong is part of China, but trying for so many years to become independent. This might be a bit too much for the JKs to understand, but it was worth mentioning. We also learned about the flag and the flower on the flag.

 Then we switched things a little bit and talked about Thanksgiving. JKs completed an activity where they had to draw the turkey feathers according to the number on the turkey.
After lunch and recess, we had math centers, which JKs rocked! Take a look:

 

After second lunch and recess we sang our phonics song read a story about Thanksgiving and had some time for centers.

Sunny Tuesday!

What a great weather today!
We had a fantastic day in our class.
In the morning JKs attended gym class, then we had snacks and morning circle time.
We also had music class with Ms. Hayward today.
In language arts we reviewed the name, sound and formation of the letter D. We looked into Bs and Ds and how tricky it can be when identifying these letters.
Next, JKs put on their detective hats and found all Ds on their sheet.

Right after recess we had French class.
Then JKs started an apple investigation. As part of our investigation we tried to guess how many seeds we were going to find in our apples. JKs then wanted to know what will happen if we plant the seeds. That's what we did, we planted our seeds in our school backyard.
Then guessed what will happen if we leave the apples overnight. Tomorrow we will find out!

After second lunch and recess, we continued learning about Hong Kong. Today we found out that children in Hong Kong are really good at sports and a typical desert is mango pudding!

Happy Monday!

Today we began the day with gym class, snacks and morning circle time.
In language arts we met our new animal friend Dexter Donkey and learned our new phonics song for letter D.
Then JKs practiced forming the letter D using play dough and the dry erase boards.
Next, we talked about our project for the week which is the International Day. We did some brainstorm on things we are curious about Hong Kong. Here are some of the JKs questions about Hong Kong:
- Do kids go to school?
- Do they have a playground in their school?
- Do they play soccer?
- What do the people of Hong Kong eat?
I really liked to see JKs exercising their inquiry minds!
In the afternoon we had French class and we revisited our UOI about healthy eating and did some cutting and pasting involving sorting vegetables, fruits and treats.

Next, we had lunch, recess and a visit from a gr.7 student who read a book to our class as part of her English project.
To finish off the day we looked into all the Hong Kong pictures and did some cutting in order to fit all pictures in our board for Thursday.
